Paypoint was founded in January 2002, previously known as Metacharge, with the vision to provide a comprehensive payment solution for internet and MOTO merchants. To that end, they employed a team of software developers and by May of 2002 their first live merchant using their software platform came online.

Since then, Paypoint has established relationships with several banking and telecommunications partners enabling its merchants to accept a wide range of payment methods. Since its inception, Metacharge has processed over 40 million transactions.
